Questions
Frequently asked.
About the work
What are these made of?
PLA, a plant-based
bioplastic that prints cleanly and holds fine detail. Most pieces have a matte finish unless a
listing says otherwise.
How is it made?
Each piece starts as a 3D model.
For topographic works, that model is built from real elevation data. The file is sliced and printed
layer by layer, then cleaned, inspected, and packed, all personally finished by me.
Why is it called 2nd Draft Co?
“First
drafts are where you figure out what you’re making. Second drafts are where you actually
make it.” Everything sold has been through both phases. That’s the quality
standard.
Ordering & timing
How long until my order ships?
Most pieces are
made to order: about 1 to 2 weeks for production, plus 3 to 7 business days for USPS Priority
delivery. On a tight timeline, email before ordering for a realistic expectation.
Can I rush an order?
Sometimes. Email your
deadline before purchasing and you’ll get an honest yes or no.
Can I cancel or change my order?
Free
cancellation within 24 hours of purchase, before production starts. After production begins,
email and I’ll accommodate if I can.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. That’s
the heart of the shop. Design your own map of any place on earth, or email for
something special.
How much do custom pieces cost?
Varies by size,
complexity, and print time. Typically 20 to 50% more than a comparable shelf piece,
reflecting the design time and one-of-one production.
Shipping
Where do you ship?
United States only for now.
International is on the roadmap; special arrangements may be possible by email.
How much is shipping?
Calculated at checkout by
dimensions, weight, and location. All orders ship USPS Priority with tracking.
What if my order arrives damaged or doesn’t arrive?
Email
within 7 days of expected delivery with your order number and photos if possible. I’ll
sort out a replacement or refund.
Do you offer local pickup?
Not currently.
Kitsap-area folks can email to arrange something.
Care & display
How do I clean it?
Soft dry cloth or soft brush
for dust; a slightly damp cloth for stickier debris. Avoid solvents, alcohol, and abrasive
cleaners, which damage the finish.
Can I display it outside?
No. PLA softens under
direct heat and degrades faster under UV. Keep it indoors, out of direct sun, hot cars, and
heat-prone spots.
How durable is it?
PLA stays rigid and
dimensionally stable indoors and resists chipping in normal display. It’s a display piece,
so treat it like framed art or sculpture.
Can I hang it on a wall?
Depends on the piece.
Check the listing for mounting guidance, or email before buying to confirm.
